The California Transportation Commission Approves Funding to complete a Dangerous Six-Mile Stretch of Highway 41 in Fresno County

The California Transportation Commission has approved $10 million in state funding. It will be used to complete a dangerous six-mile stretch of Highway 41 in Fresno County. This section had 35% of all Highway 41 fatalities in the County from December 2011 to January 2020. Local officials and the “Widen Highway 41” Facebook group advocated for the project after fatal accidents in November 2020.

The $10 million will be combined with:

  • $33 million in additional state funding
  • $13 million in local Measure C funds
  • $14.8 million from Caltrans’ State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP)

Construction is expected to begin in early 2025 and last about two years. Meanwhile, the area is now a no-passing zone. It has concrete barriers installed for safety.
